On the same day Keir Starmer was busy demanding the release of the sausages, down in Godalming and Ash our polling day campaign team were pounding the streets for the Godalming Binscombe and Charterhouse ward by-election.
In a straight fight between Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem, and the Greens we are thrilled our candidate Daniel Husseini won the seat previously held by Labour. With only 29% turnout Daniel topped the polls by 11 votes to the irritation of the Lib Dems who came second, seeing a collapse of the Labour vote.
Godalming Binscombe & Charterhouse (Waverley) Council By-Election Result:
🌳 CON: 40.6% (+19.7)
🔶 LDM: 40.0% (+10.7)
🌍 GRN: 10.9% (-16.3)
🌹 LAB: 8.5% (-14.1)
Conservative GAIN from Labour (Changes w/ 2023)
An unsuccessful candidate in the same ward in May 2023, Daniel was undeterred and spent the last 15 months channelling his frustration into improving his name recognition, fundraising, and local campaigning. Most notably Daniel was instrumental in the successful 2023 campaign to save Farncombe Boots alongside MP Jeremy Hunt.
It was brilliant to see so many Surrey area supporters out for our two action days, supported by our MP's Lincoln Jopp MC, Greg Stafford and Jeremy Hunt. This made a huge difference and ensured we were able to keep toe-to-toe with the Lib Dems on the literature front. A huge thank you to Area Chair Mike Brennan and team for the mutual aid, and to Dirk Russell for his excellent guidance.
A very well done to Daniel; we are thrilled we now have a Council group of 11! Onwards and upwards…
