In a remarkable display of endurance and commitment, Jeremy Hunt MP crossed the finish line of the London Marathon, having raised a substantial £35,666 for the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s innovative new cancer and surgical centre. At 57, Mr. Hunt has completed his third and, he claims, final marathon, each run furthering his mission to significantly support the hospital that played a pivotal role during his brother’s cancer diagnosis.
Launching his campaign back in September 2021, Jeremy Hunt has been a relentless advocate for the hospital, having already secured £25 million in NHS funding. His continued efforts, including those from his marathons, have contributed a total of £470,000 towards the new centre, aimed at enhancing the hospital's capacity for life-saving surgeries.
The Royal Surrey County Hospital is a beacon of excellence in cancer care, specialising in minimally invasive surgery and advanced recovery processes. The funds raised by the MP for South West Surrey will support the hospital’s expansion, allowing for an additional 7,000 patients to receive surgical care annually, which includes critical cancer treatments.
At this year's marathon, the spirit of community and support was outstanding, with many participants, including friends and family of Jeremy's brother, Charlie, sporting "Team Chazza" t-shirts in a show of solidarity. This collective effort underscores the community's strong will to stand together against cancer, a disease that has touched many lives.
Jeremy Hunt's heartfelt message on his Just Giving page reflects his deep personal connection to the cause: “It’s a bit crazy to do it at my ripe old age of 57, and I promise this is the last! But so many of us have been affected in some way by this awful, cruel disease. Together, we can fight cancer and one day create a world without it causing so much heartbreak.”
As Jeremy Hunt concludes his marathon journey, his call for donations continues, inviting everyone who can to contribute towards this noble cause. The funds raised will not only honour his brother’s battle but also bolster the hospital's capability to fight cancer more effectively.
