Surrey County Council’s Cabinet has approved funding for several key projects aimed at transforming community spaces and facilities across the county.
So far, over £20 million has now been awarded across 43 Your Fund Surrey large community projects since the Fund launched in 2020.
Epsom Sports Club has been awarded £1 million in funding towards the construction of a new clubhouse, opening up both interior and exterior spaces for the community. The clubhouse will cater to the needs of different groups, creating a shared space at the heart of the community for a wide variety of activities, for both young and old. This includes counselling services, social groups and fitness classes.
The Link Community Hub in Haslemere also secured £1 million in funding from the Large Community Projects Fund. The project aims to transform The Link, an existing community building in the East of Haslemere, into a larger, more useable space as well as creating smaller, private rooms suitable for counselling and other community support services not currently available in the area.
1st Ash Vale Scout Group, another recent successful applicant to You Fund Surrey’s Large Community Projects Fund will receive £606,443 towards the construction of a new headquarters and community wellbeing meeting place. This project combines a community benefit focussed on provision both for the elderly and youth.
Surrey County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities Denise Turner-Stewart said:
Surrey County Council’s funding approval for these latest projects marks our continuing commitment to enabling thriving communities. We know the importance these community projects have in providing accessible, affordable activities and social isolation support for residents and families on low incomes in their localities.
These investments won’t just change buildings; they’ll also make our communities better places to live. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have for years to come.
Five more Your Fund Surrey projects were approved in March, including funding allocations for three projects in Tandridge:
- £95,000 for new inclusive play equipment for Stychens Lane Playground in Bletchingley.
- £44,113 for the Bletchingley Village Primary School Community Garde.
- £69,935 for Kingswood Shetland and Friends to install a garden building to provide shelter and a learning space for the community.
- £114,500 to Peaslake Village Hall in Guildford towards a new extension.
- £370,100 to the Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets in Elmbridge towards the internal fit out of a new waterborne training centre.
