MP for Surrey Heath, Michael Gove is on the case with Camberley Sewage Treatment Works following foul odours that plagued Camberley during the summer.
Michael has been instrumental in holding Thames Water to account and convening local stakeholders in working together in trying to resolve the issues.
Following Michael's Teams meeting on 30 November with Alastair Cochran, the then Interim Co-Chief Executive of Thames Water, to press for financial compensation from Thames Water for local residents, he convened a further meeting last Monday (15th January 2024) to continue the work towards a resolution.
In a post on his Facebook page, Michael said:
I wish to ensure that Thames Water makes amends and rebuilds goodwill with the community, and I brought together local stakeholders to try to achieve this.
Monday’s meeting provided a further opportunity to underline the significant impact of the odour incident on residents last summer, and I felt the discussion with Thames Water was constructive. Surrey Heath Borough Council will now look into suitable proposals to put to Thames Water, and I am sure will report back in due course.
Meanwhile, I am keeping in touch with Thames Water, and with Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority.
